For those with artistic flair, cosmetology offers a wide variety of opportunities. Learn care of the skin, hair, scalp, and nails in this 1,000-hour program as you prepare for NYS licensing. Students enjoy practicing on mannequins and fellow classmates as they study hairstyling, coloring, perms and relaxers, make-up application and manicures.Many graduates combine their beauty skills with their business training to open their own businesses. The field offers much flexibility for those who need to work variant schedules.
Financial aid is available to those who qualify. Convenient monthly payment plans are also available.

Esthetics, the field of skin care and make-up, is now a specialty requiring a separate NYS license in Esthetics. This 600-hour course will cover anatomy and physiology, bacteriology, sterilization, structure and function of the skin, facial procedures, use of various machines, waxing, basic make-up techniques, and business practices. Salons throughout the country offer flexible employment opportunities to licensed estheticians. Major retailers, department stores and manufacturers also hire estheticians who can earn high commissions with demonstrated sales records. Many graduates combine their beauty skills with their business training to open their own businesses.

Learn the theory and skills to diagnose, service and repair cars, SUVs and light duty trucks. You will use up-to-date electronic and hydraulic equipment to precisely diagnose today’s sophisticated vehicle. Prerequisite: Students must attend a 4-hour safety orientation workshop before taking the first track. Textbooks included. New students may begin on the first day of most modules in either Track A or B. Start with the track that interests you most.
You’ll spend four hours per day of BOCES ’s automotive technology program working “hands-on” in our auto shop. Our highly skilled instructors help you apply what they teach in class. You learn by doing! NOTE: New students may begin on the first school day of each month.

The NCCT recognizes the curricula used in the adult health career programs of Western Suffolk BOCES. Students completing a sequence of courses are eligible to sit for the national examinations for certification. Fees for each exam are to be made payable to the NCCT. Learn the fascinating field of sonography. This 24-month program integrates basic sciences, medical sciences and instruction in Diagnostic Sonography with supervised clinical experience in hospitals and doctor's offices from Manhattan to Southampton. Students gain valuable hands-on experience in several three-month clinical rotations. Successful completion of the program leads to a certificate that qualifies you to sit for any of the five registry exams for Diagnostic Medical Sonography immediately upon graduation.
Prerequisites: high school diploma or equivalent; a minimum grade of "C" in college level credit bearing courses in general physics, anatomy and physiology I and II, algebra, and English; and a satisfactory score on the TEAS (Test of Essential Academic Skills). The test covers reading comprehension, basic math, science, and English and language skills. If you meet the above requirements and score in the 50th percentile or higher, you will receive an invitation to apply. Graduates from other health programs are welcome to apply. Classroom instruction is at BOCES' Northport campus. Courses begin in July and have vacation during holiday periods. (2,800 hrs, 280 CEU)

Become one of the most versatile members of the health care team as you prepare to work as a medical assistant in physicians’ offices, hospitals and clinics. Duties include running the front office, receptionist functions, bookkeeping, and filing. Assist the physician with examinations and treatments, medications, perform EKG’s and simple laboratory procedures.
Study topics including hematology, urinalysis, phlebotomy, basic blood banking, and routinely performed chemistry tests. Daytime cinical experience provided in local medical offices and clinics. Those who successfully complete this program are eligible to sit for two national certification exams--Medical Assisting and Phlebotomy.
Prerequisite: Basic computer skills and a successful score on TABE test. Note: High school diploma or equivalent is required to sit for national certification exams. Exam will be given after program completion. Testing fees additional.

Prepare to begin your nursing career as a nurse assistant. Covers basic procedures in bedside nursing care, theory, medical ethics, and clinical supervision in a local health facility.
Students who successfully complete this program will be eligible to take the Nursing Home Nurse Aide Certification Examination which qualifies students for a listing in the NYS registry.
Requirements: Personal interview, satisfactory scores on a standardized test and physical examination.
Program is 175 hours. Day program takes approximately 2 months to complete. Evening program takes approximately 6 months to complete. Offered at BOCES' Northport campus.

Learn the skills and knowledge necessary to be a valuable member of today’s health care team. BOCES' program helps prepare you for licensing as a practical nurse. The low ratio of students to faculty allows many opportunities for individualized instruction.
For those planning to pursue additional training in the field of nursing, BOCES School of Practical Nursing is affiliated with registered nursing programs at Helene Fuld College of Nursing, Nassau Community College, Suffolk Community College, SUNY Farmingdale, Molloy College and Dowling College. Advanced placement is available in the Surgical Technology Program upon graduation.
Accelerated day programs start in March and take 13 months to complete.
The evening program includes two Saturday classes each month. Classes for the evening program start in September and March, and take 18 months to complete.
The part-time day program takes two calendar years to complete. It begins in September and ends in June. Prerequisite: High school diploma or equivalent plus satisfactory score on pre-entrance exam.
Tuition includes fees for stethoscope, surgical scissors and nursing pin. Additional costs for textbooks, uniforms, licensing fee, physical exam, liability insurance and CPR certification are required for entering program. Financial aid, payment plans, grants and loans available for those who qualify.
Offered at BOCES' Northport campus. (1,350 hrs, 135 CEU).

Learn to work closely with surgeons, anesthesiologists and registered nurses to provide direct patient care throughout surgery. Study setting up the operating room, prepping patients, the disease process and instrumentation. You will be assigned to a local health care facility to work under an experienced health care professional.
This program will prepare you for employment in operating rooms, surgical offices, delivery rooms, emergency departments, physician and dentist offices, central supply services, cardiac catheterization clinics, tissue banks and ambulatory surgical care sites. Advanced placement is available in the Practical Nursing Program upon graduation.
Prerequisite: High school diploma or equivalent plus satisfactory score on pre-entrance exam.
Financial aid, loans, grants and payment plans available to those who qualify. Additional costs include textbooks, malpractice insurance, uniform, CPR certification, and a complete physical examination. (1,200 hrs, 120 CEUs). Offered at BOCES' Northport campus. Classes begin in March and September each year and takes 12 months to complete. Upon completion of the program the graduate will be eligible to apply to the National Board of Surgical Technology & Surgical Assisting to take the National Certification Examination provided all eligibility requirements are met.
